Webinar: 6 More Weeks of ‘Self-Care’? Don’t Care

February 2 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

I wake up every day, right here, right in Punxsutawney, and it’s always February 2nd, and there’s nothing I can do about it.” – Phil Connors, Groundhog Day

Like the movie Groundhog Day, hearing talk of “self-care” might feel like the same thing over and over without anything ever changing. Educators need actionable strategies to move beyond just talk to really walk the walk of staff wellness. Acknowledging the seemingly insurmountable challenges schools are facing, this session will focus on equipping participants with practical tools, ideas, and resources to promote staff well-being. Dr. Melissa Maras will overview implementation barriers to staff wellness promotion in schools, including challenges associated with the language we use, past efforts that missed the mark, and the reality of sustaining an educational workforce that is sick and tired of being sick and tired. Participants will be encouraged to laugh, commiserate, and share concrete examples of how they’ve succeeded in shifting from being problem-solvers to solution-seekers. The session will include time for Q&A. To submit questions beforehand, complete our anonymous Qualtrics survey.

About the presenter: Melissa Maras received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Miami University in 2008. She is a research consultant at the Assessment Resource Center in the University of Missouri’s College of Education and Human Development, where she works with schools to build capacity around mental health.
