This is a continuation of a monthly series from the Network for Educator Effectiveness. We share the accomplishments, creativity, and good news of our partner districts based on schools’ social media activity. Our hope is to spread positivity and bring even more attention to the amazing work happening in NEE schools.

February may be the shortest month of the year, but that doesn’t keep our NEE districts from packing the calendar full of outstanding events.  The following is just a portion of the many activities that happened this month.

  • School counselors were recognized during National School Counseling Week, which took place February 5-11.  Schools took the opportunity to highlight the impact counselors have in helping students achieve success and plan for a career.  See how counselors from the Independence School District were recognized.
  • Congratulations to former Anselmo-Merna player and coach Matt McGinn, who was recently inducted into Nebraska’s 8 Man Football High School Hall of Fame!
  • The Sikeston Board of Education recently honored Coach Gregg Holifield for 26 successful years as the head basketball coach.  What an honor to have the basketball court named after you while still coaching!
  • Drama departments provide lots of entertainment during spring performances. Middle school students from Morgan County R-II performed in late February, and Sacred Heart School students are rehearsing for “Fiddler on the Roof” coming up in March.
  • Districts including Richards R-V and Carroll Community School District celebrated Public Schools Week February 26-March 1.  The teachers and staff at public schools everywhere work so hard every day to give their students opportunities to learn and grow.
  • Many interesting lessons are going on in our NEE classrooms.  Here, students from Columbia Area Career Center show off their NASA HUNCH competition projects to NASA representatives.
  • It’s hard to repeat as champions, but the Sapphires dance team from Liberty High School has done it five years in a row!  Not to be outdone, Liberty’s wrestling team did it too!

There is so much going on in our member schools during this time of year and it is always wonderful to see.  Although we can’t highlight everything, we want to recognize all our outstanding schools for the work administrators, teachers, support staff, and students do each and every day.  Watch for our next blog coming in March as we continue to highlight the happenings in NEE member schools.
